Chassis number is the unique identifier for every car built in Japan. Japanese carmakers do not use a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) as is common in the United States and elsewhere. Instead, Japan uses a Chassis (Frame) Number 12 - 17 alphanumeric characters identifying model and serial number.
-
You can find the VIN/Chassis number of a vehicle in a number of places on a car, but most commonly on the body of the car next to the driver’s seat when the driver's door is open. Sometimes it is actually on the inside of the driver’s door. On some vehicles, the chassis number is also placed on the engine, hood, and other parts. It also appears on the car registration, insurance policies, service records and police reports for the vehicle. You can find some useful guidance in the " Chassis Number " section.
