Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Japanese car history report? +
A Japanese car history report compiles official and auction-sourced records for a specific vehicle using its chassis number (VIN) — including auction history and condition grading, accident and damage records, odometer readings over time, open manufacturer recalls, and a vehicle safety assessment. It helps buyers verify a used Japanese vehicle before purchase or import.
What information do I need to order a report? +
Just the vehicle's chassis number (also called a VIN) and your email address. The chassis number is usually found on the vehicle's registration documents, auction sheet, or stamped on the chassis itself.
How long does it take to get my report? +
Reports are typically ready within 48 hours. We email you a PDF copy as soon as it's complete, and you can check progress any time on our order tracking page.
When is my card charged? +
Your card is only authorized (held) when you check out — it is not charged yet. We charge the card only after we confirm the chassis number was found and your report is ready. If we cannot find any record for the chassis number, the hold is released in full and you are never charged.
What if my vehicle cannot be found? +
If we are unable to locate any records for the chassis number you submitted, your order is automatically cancelled and the payment hold on your card is released — you will not be charged. We'll email you to let you know.
Do I need to create an account? +
No account is required. You check out as a guest, and you can look up your order status and download your report any time using your order number and the email address you provided at checkout.
Where does the data come from? +
AutoCheck.JP aggregates records from Japanese auto auction houses, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT), and manufacturer recall and inspection databases for vehicles registered in Japan.
